My name is Frances May and I am a self-taught, full time artist based in Nottinghamshire. I absolutely love animals as well as drawing, and so specialise in pet portraiture. Each year, my work grows and evolves into something bigger, more interesting, and better. As an artist, there is no greater pleasure for me than finding genuine growth and improvement in both the quality and style of my work. As I have grown and matured, so has my art. Below are some of the pieces I recently created in my studio.
If you would like a commissioned portrait all I really need is one good quality photograph. Where the quality of the photo is of lower resolution, perhaps for instance if your pet has passed and cannot be retaken, then I may need a few photos for reference of detail etc.
For pet portrait commissions I specialise in realistic coloured pencil drawings. The pencils I use for this are Faber Castell Polychromo Pencils and Caran D’ache Luminance lightfast pencils, both being the highest quality pencils on the market. My pencil portraits have a more subtle tone with a higher detail and realistic finish.
I also work in oil paint, with my paintings holdIng a more vibrant and bold style than my drawings.So keep this in mind when deciding on what kind of portrait you would like.
